Biography:

Dr. Hage was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and spent his high school years in Durham, North Carolina, graduating from Charles E. Jordan High School. In 1992, he graduated magna cum laude from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio with an honors degree in Biology. He returned to North Carolina and earned his medical degree from Duke University in 1996. Dr. Hage completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Emory University in Atlanta, earning both the Leonard Marmor Outstanding Orthopaedic Surgery Resident Award and the Kelly Society Outstanding Clinical Research Paper Award. During his final year of residency training his peers elected him Administrative Chief Resident.

From 2001-2002, Dr. Hage completed an additional year of training in Sports Medicine at the University of Maryland. During this year, Dr. Hage served on the medical staff of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. He also served on the medical staff of the University of Maryland Athletic Department, which included the 2001 ACC Champion Football Team and the 2002 NCAA National Champion Men’s Basketball Team.

Dr. Hage specializes in arthroscopic (minimally invasive) treatment of knee and shoulder injuries such as ACL tears, cartilage injuries, rotator cuff tears, and shoulder instability. During his training, Dr. Hage has been involved in a number of orthopedic research projects which have focused on the treatment of athletic injuries through a better understanding of joint biomechanics, muscle strains, and tendon ruptures. He has published this research in numerous journals and presented at national meetings such as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Orthopaedic Research Society.

Dr. Hage has been an avid sports enthusiast throughout his life. While at Jordan High School, he was a member of back-to-back state championship swim teams. During college, he was a member of two NCAA Championship swim teams at Kenyon College. He continues this love of sports today as the team physician for Campbell University and Leesville Road High School. Dr. Hage currently resides in Raleigh with his wife Penny, daughter Mimi, and son Preston.
