Welcome to J. Mack Aldridge III, M.D. Bio, an specialist in in treating Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head with the free vascularized fibular graft (FVFG).

Dr. Aldridge obtained his undergraduate degree from Duke University.  He is a graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and completed his orthopaedic surgery training at Duke University Medical Center.  Dr. Aldridge also completed a subspecialty fellowship training in hand, upper extremity, and microsurgery at Duke University Medical Center.  He served as assistant professor on the Duke Orthopaedic staff for four years, during which time he served for one year as chief of orthopaedics at the Durham VAMC, and devoted countless hours towards research and teaching fellow, residents, and medical students.

Dr. Aldridge is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has received his certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in Hand Surgery.  He is an officer of the Duke Hand Club and the North Carolina Society for Surgery of the Hand.  He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the North Carolina Orthopaedic Association, the Eastern Orthopaedic Association, the Piedmont Orthopaedic Society, the Bassett Orthopaedic Society, and the Southeastern Hand Society.

Dr. Aldridge has a broad range of knowledge of orthopaedic problems with subspecialty training in the upper extremity (hand, wrist, elbow), with interests ranging from complex trauma, elbow replacements, upper extremity arthritis, brachial plexus injury and reconstruction, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, and Dupuytren's, among others.

Outside of upper extremity surgery, Dr. Aldridge has expertise in treating Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head with the free vascularized fibular graft (FVFG).  He has published numerous articles and spoken at national and international meetings about his experience with this procedure.  He is one of only a few surgeons in the United States that performs this procedure.  Dr. Aldridge practices at North Carolina Specialty Hospital, James E. Davis Surgery Center, and Durham Regional Hospital.

Dr. Aldridge is married and resides in Durham with his wife, Elizabeth, and their two daughters, Liza and Caroline.
