Dr. Baerman earned her undergraduate, graduate and medical degrees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following the completion of medical school, she remained in the Triangle area and carried out her residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals.
Through an Oncology Research Fellowship, Dr. Baerman fortified her surgical expertise. Today, she frequently performs biopsies, breast conservation and oncoplastic surgery, mastectomies and sentinel lymph node biopsies.
Other surgical areas include:
• Abdominal surgery – for diseases of the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, small bowel, appendix, and large bowel
• Breast surgery – for benign and malignant breast disease
• Endocrine surgery – for diseases of the adrenal, parathyroid and thyroid glands
• Hernia surgery – for inguinal, femoral, ventral/incisional, diaphragmatic, and other hernias
Throughout her career Dr. Baerman has garnered honors, including Administrative Chief Resident and Distinguished Medical Scholar. She has published numerous journal articles and has given presentations at medical symposiums.
In addition to her medical profession, Dr. Baerman has developed a talent for performing and instructing violin and viola. She takes great interest in chamber music, has performed with multiple orchestras, and has taught for UNC-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Baerman currently treats patients at the Durham (William Penn Plaza) location of Triangle Orthopaedics. She operates at Durham Regional and North Carolina Specialty Hospitals as well as Davis Ambulatory Surgery Center in Durham, NC.
