The spleen is a vascular organ in the left upper abdomen, and it serves an important role in the immune system. However, certain disease processes require the removal of the spleen. In a laparoscopic splenectomy, a tiny camera and four small incisions are used to remove the spleen. When it is necessary to remove the spleen, it is important that certain vaccinations are given just before or after the splenectomy.
At TOA Surgical Specialists, our surgeons are experienced in performing laparoscopic splenectomy, and we also coordinate the perioperative care that goes with splenectomy. Contact us at our office to learn more.
